Listen, Then Act: Leveraging LGBTQIA+ Community Listening Sessions To Inform Research And Practice

The Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference is in-person and online. PRIDEnet's presentation will happen virtually for all of those who registered. Registration is free, and closed on August 30, 2024. PRIDEnet's presentation, "Listen, Then Act: Leveraging LGBTQIA+ Community Listening Sessions To Inform Research And Practice" will be live on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. EST.

Session Description: Improving LGBTQIA+ health care and research requires centering the voices of LGBTQIA+ community members. Community listening sessions are an effective tool for gathering direct feedback and ensuring that efforts reflect the principle of community engaged research. As a representative of PRIDEnet at Stanford University, Cassie Armea-Warren will share how we have used these sessions to inform projects like The PRIDE Study and the All of Us Research Program, highlighting lessons learned and offering practical insights for applying this approach in diverse settings.

Webinar: Disparities in Health-Related Quality of Life Among Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Cancer Survivors

Few studies have focused on the needs and experiences of lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) cancer survivors who may be at heightened risk for poorer health-related quality of life (HRQOL) after cancer compared to heterosexual cancer survivors. Using data from the All of Us Research Program, researchers compared HRQOL outcomes (physical, mental, social) among LGB cancer survivors, and their heterosexual counterparts matched on age, gender identity, marital status, income, education, and cancer site. This talk will highlight several disparities in HRQOL that exist between LGB and heterosexual cancer survivors.

When? June 21 on Zoom at 12 - 1pm PT

Become a PRIDEnet Ambassador! Session #3

Did you know that LGBTQIA+ people have historically been excluded from health research? PRIDEnet is working to change that, and we need your help.

PRIDEnet is a national network of LGBTQ serving organizations who are working together to increase LGBTQ participation in health research studies. We are guided by the principle that LGBTQ people should be involved in every step of the research process, beginning with what questions get asked, all the way to how the results of research are shared and used by our community.

We are looking for PRIDEnet Ambassadors who are skilled storytellers, artists, community organizers, and/or social media mavens who can help us refine and share our messages in the community. If you are passionate about LGBTQ health and want to serve your community by shaping the future of LGBTQ health research, come join us.

Ambassadors are expected to attend meetings on the 4th Tuesday of each month (4 pm Eastern) and collaborate on 2 engagement events (digital or in-person) per year. A $1000 stipend, paid once every 6 months, is paid in consideration of your time and effort ($2,000/year total).

If you are interested, please attend one of the following information sessions, where we will give an introduction to our current LGBTQ health research projects, including The PRIDE Study, and the All of UsResearch Program.  We will also take time to discuss the role of PRIDEnet Ambassadors and an overview of the application process.

To become involved:

  • Attend one of the required online information sessions: (Click link to register.)

  • After attending an information session, submit the PRIDEnet Ambassador Application by September 15, 2023. (Application link will be provided at the end of the information session.) Decisions will be sent via email by Friday, September 29, 2023.
